MUST BE FLEXIBLE TO WORK BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 7A TO 7P WITH WEEKEND ROTATION

The Flow Cytometry Technologist is responsible for assuring reliable and accurate laboratory test results, which contribute to the diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and prevention of physiological and pathological conditions in humans. Quality clinical laboratory testing is evidenced by performing the correct test, on the right person, at the right time, producing accurate test results, with the best outcome, in the most cost-effective manner.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform flow cytometry sample accessioning, processing, staining and analysis.

  • Operate and maintain flow cytometry instruments.

  • Works closely with the Hematopathologist and the flow cytometry technical coordinator.

  • Able to analyze and interpret flow cytometry data using specialized software.

  • Remains competent with flow cytometry principles and techniques.

  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety procedures and regulations.

  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to flow cytometry.

  • Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards; follows standard policies and procedures independently without assistance.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network

  • Entity as well as theproper release of information.

  • Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient andenvironmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.

  • Demonstrates/models the Network's Service Excellence Standards of Performance ininteractions with all customers (internal and external).

  • Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety.

  • Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficientuse of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices.

  • Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.

  • Demonstrates competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth anddevelopment and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated.

  • Organizes and prioritizes daily workload in order to complete assigned tasks in a timely fashion Maintains a clean and orderly work area.

  • Handles multiple assignments as necessary, with an ability to adapt to changes.

  • Coordinates and cooperates with co-workers to promote a productive working environment.

  • Demonstrates effective communication skills by conveying necessary information accurately, listening effectively and asking pertinent questions. Performs AIDET.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Sitting up to 7 hours per day - 2-hour increments. Standing up to 5 hours per day - 2-hour
increments. Walking - up to 7 hours per day - short increments. Frequently uses fingers to
manipulate small vials
, pipetting, etc. Continuous use of hands for operation of laboratory
equipment and computer keyboard. Occasional lifting of boxes
/equipment up to 30 lbs.
Occasional pushing/pulling of equipment
. Frequent stooping, bending. Occasional crouching.
Frequent reaching above shoulder level and stretching across work area (30" depth)
. Hearing as
it relates to normal, high and low frequencies. Seeing as it relates to general, far, near, color and
peripheral vision. Depth perception. Ability to palpate veins.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in a chemical or biological science or medical technology from an accredited institution.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of 2 years of clinical flow cytometry experience is preferred; proven experience as a flow cytometry specialist with in-depth knowledge of flow cytometry principles and applications.
