City of Hope is in search of a Senior Manager, Biobank Operations, for the Henderson Biorepository. In this role, you will use comprehensive knowledge and industry best practices to provide high-level oversight to ensure consistent high quality life cycle management of human biospecimens for research purposes. The Senior Manager will bring expertise to the management of all biorepository functions to support the day-to-day operations of the Henderson Biorepository.

As a successful candidate, you will:

Management Oversight:

  • Lead biobank budget stewardship and cost-recovery strategy to sustain and scale services.

  • Partner with shared resource leadership to design, launch, and refine biobanking services with clear, accurate rate-setting.

  • Drive strategic planning, KPI visibility, and operational resilience (including disaster preparedness) to improve performance and continuity.

Facilities Oversight:

  • Ensure reliable, scalable cold-chain infrastructure and warehouse/freezer capacity that protects specimen integrity.

  • Oversee equipment readiness, maintenance, calibration, and expansion/automation initiatives to keep operations audit-ready and future-proof.

Personnel Oversight:

  • Support personnel management across Biobank Operations, including recruitment/retention, supervision, mentorship, and performance management.

  • Ensure staff compliance and operational readiness by maintaining HIPAA/IRB/CITI adherence, a safe work environment, and accurate KPI/reporting, documentation, and training/safety records.

Service Oversight:

  • Serve as a consultative partner to researchers, ensuring accurate, ethical specimen release and a consistently excellent customer experience.

Informatics Oversight:

  • Strengthen biobank informatics (LIMS/iLab) and data QA/QC to ensure end-to-end chain-of-custody, traceability, and CAP readiness.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any natural science; 3 additional years of experience plus the minimum experience requirement may substitute for minimum education.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in managing a human biobank in an academic, research or commercial environment and sound knowledge of ISBER and NCI Biobank Best Practices.

  • 3 years of experience in a leadership capacity.

  • Experience working with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) for biospecimen inventory and tracking.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Biological Sciences, Public Health or related field.

  • IATA certification

  • Active member of the International Society of Biological & Environmental Repositories (ISBER)

  • Familiarity with working in a clinical setting.

  • Experience with LabVantage or other biospecimen tracking inventory system.

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $63.67 - $106.34 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
