Position Summary
The Senior Research Insurance Specialist plays a critical leadership role in supporting clinical trial operations by guiding a team responsible for insurance verification and authorization processes. This role serves as the go-to expert for complex cases, ensuring patients have the necessary coverage to participate in clinical trials while maintaining compliance and efficiency. You’ll help drive operational excellence, support team development, and ensure timely access to life-saving treatments.
As a successful candidate, you will:
- Lead and support daily operations of the Research Insurance Specialist team
- Provide training, coaching, and onboarding for new and existing team members
- Assign and monitor workload to ensure timely insurance verifications and authorizations
- Verify insurance benefits and determine coverage eligibility for clinical trial participation
- Coordinate with clinical teams to secure authorizations and pre-certifications for patient care
- Analyze study coverage to distinguish sponsor-paid vs. insurance-covered services
- Monitor productivity metrics and identify opportunities for process improvements
- Act as a liaison across departments and step in during leadership absences
- Support appeals and resolution of insurance denials
- Deliver exceptional customer service to patients, providers, and internal teams
Your qualifications should include:
- Associate Degree. Experience may substitute for minimum education requirements
- 5 years of related experience and 3+ years of healthcare experience

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $30.67 - $47.54 / hour
The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
