Research Assistant III: Associate's Degree in a related field and two (2) years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Grade 3 (Hourly)

Position Description:

The Laboratory of Dr. Alex Carll (https://louisville.edu/envirome/research/laboratories/alex-carll-laboratory) in the Center for Cardiometabolic Science, Department of Physiology, and Christina Lee Brown Envirome Institute, has an opening for a Research Assistant II or Research Assistant III. The position will be filled at the level as determined by education, experience, and qualifications of the candidate.

This position will assist in cardiovascular toxicology experiments involving biochemical and physiological measures of live rodents and their tissues.

This is a fully in-person position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Handle laboratory mice.

  • Manage and organize animal colonies.

  • Acquire physiologic data from mice (e.g., electrocardiograms or blood pressure signals).

  • Conduct animal inhalation exposures to e-cigarette aerosols or air pollutants.

  • Organize, analyze, and summarize large experimental datasets in MS Excel or other data processing software.

  • Perform biochemical/molecular assays (e.g., Western blot, qRTPCR, ELISA, immunofluorescence).

  • Prepare materials and equipment necessary for laboratory tests.

  • Research literature and help prepare journal articles for submission.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience and comfort with processing datasets.

  • Comfort with basic handling of rodents for experiments.

  • Experience managing mouse genetic colonies.

  • Past experience with physiologic data, wet lab procedures (Western blot, qRTPCR, ELISA), surgery, histology, or statistical analyses are appreciated.

  • Curiosity and attention to detail are expected.

  • Research Assistant III only: experience in animal and/or preclinical research required

Target Compensation Maximum:

$25.39

Target Compensation Minimum:

$16.93

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
