The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Assistant Professor-in-Residence in Professional Practice and Community Engagement [R0151725].
ROLE of the POSITION
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) School of Architecture invites applications for an Assistant Professor-in-Residence position in Professional Practice and Community Engagement in Architecture. This is a non-tenure-track, full-time academic appointment within the College of Fine Arts. This position is designed to strengthen the school’s instructional and outreach capacity in areas directly aligned with NAAB accreditation criteria, including professional practice, leadership, collaboration, and community engagement. The successful candidate will play a central role in bridging academic instruction with professional practice and community-based design initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Faculty in Residence in Professional Practice and Community Engagement will support the school’s instructional, outreach, and accreditation missions through the delivery of professionally grounded coursework in architectural practice, including project delivery, ethics, and practice operations, while providing mentorship to students pursuing internships, licensure pathways (AXP/ARE), and career placement. The position will lead or contribute to community-engaged design studios and initiatives in partnership with local organizations, public agencies, and nonprofit stakeholders, translating real-world challenges into applied learning experiences. The successful candidate will cultivate and sustain industry and community partnerships to expand experiential learning opportunities and workforce development pipelines, contribute to NAAB accreditation and assessment efforts through documentation of professional practice and engagement activities, and participate in applied research and School-wide initiatives that connect students to practice-based and community-centered work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Terminal degree in Architecture from a professionally accredited institution as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)
Professional licensure in architecture
Demonstrated professional experience in architectural practice
Evidence of engagement in community-based, public-interest, or applied design work
Demonstrated ability to teach and mentor students in a professional-practice context
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prior teaching experience in an accredited architecture program
Demonstrated success in developing industry and/or community partnerships
Experience with community design practice
Familiarity with NAAB accreditation standards and processes
